This presentation aims to revisit some of the considerations related to the newly legislated PATH Act which Congress passed on December 18, 2015 that renews and makes permanent, the Charitable IRA provision of 2006.  The presentation will include a discussion of who stands to benefit most from this type of tax-saving gift to charity.

Lee Ann Adams, JD, with GEARHISER, PETERS, ELLIOTT & CANNON, PLLC will present Estate Planning for an Aging Population.

The rapid growth in the number of Americans over age 65, and ever-increasing life expectancies, dramatically affect the estate planning industry.  Clients and their family members inevitably must deal with emotional and financial issues that may impact relationships and endanger wealth built over a lifetime.  Critical estate planning matters for aging clients and their family members include the following:

  • Design and efficacy of revocable trusts, durable powers of attorney and advanced directives
  • Long-term care insurance

  • Understanding retirement challenges
  • Retirement solutions
  • Understanding annuities
  • Benefits of annuities
  • Function and types of annuities
  • How annuities can be used

Matthew G. Buyer, JD, CTFA, Trust Services Advisor with Pinnacle Financial Partners will present Practical Considerations when Choosing a Fiduciary including:

  • Definition of fiduciary
  • Types of fiduciaries
  • Individual as a fiduciary
  • Corporate/professional fiduciary
  • Reasons to consider each
