Ms. Carol’s Playschool established a Scholarship Fund in memory of Ashlyn Taylor Lamberth.
A 2015 Bradley Central High School graduate Ashlyn Lamberth, 17, had started her job at Ms. Carol’s Playschool just one day before losing her life May 20 in a tragic accident on North Lee Highway.
Ashlyn’s mother, Princess Lamberth, is a current employee of the center. The mother and daughter had first gotten involved with the center when Ashlyn was just 4 years old.
When Ashlyn passed away, some of the center’s roughly 22 teachers and 80 families began asking co-owners Carol Corum and Shelley Mathews how they could help.
After seeking Princess’ approval, the center began raising money for a new scholarship designed to allow students like Ashlyn to follow in the footsteps she was unable to take.
Ashlyn loved to sing with both the choir at Bradley Central High School and in her church, East Side Church of Christ. Her plans after graduation included earning a degree from Lee University.
The center wants to honor Ashlyn’s memory by providing a student with the same zest for life an opportunity to go to college. The Ashlyn Taylor Lamberth Scholarship will provide a Bradley Central choir student funds to attend Lee University.
The recipients will be considered based on their academic performance, financial need and community service, and Corum said Princess will be among those reading applicant essays to choose scholarship recipients.
The scholarship will be awarded annually to one eligible applicant.
Donations are made by simply writing a check to the Foundation designated to the Fund or online.
